Easter Egg Raffle
IT'S EASTER EGG RAFFLE TIME! We have over 100 eggs up for grabs!! Thank you to all staff, families and local businesses who have donated so generously. 'A Glint of Gold' - Y3/Y4 Production
Well done to Year 3 & Year 4 who just wowed the whole school with a sneak preview of their production 'The Glint of Gold'! They were absolutely amazing and cannot wait to share their play with parents on Wednesday evening!
FOSJ Quiz Night
A huge thank you to everyone who attended our Friends of St Joseph's quiz on Friday night, it was a fantastic success and raised money for the KS1 playground equipment! Well done to 'Team Us' who beat all the other teams to victory!
Guess the Teddy Bear Name
Congratulations to our Year 1 pupil Logan who correctly guessed the name of the teddy bear! He now gets to take Maggie home with him!
Thank you to all the families who joined us for our 'Reading Breakfast' this morning as we launch our @Scholastic Book Fair! Remember that the book fair will be in school until Tuesday 27th March and that each book sold raises money for school to purchase books!
Y5 Performance - Chevin Music Partnership Concert
Year 5 had a great time performing at the Chevin Music Partnership Concert at Yeadon Town Hall last night. They played two pieces of music using Djembe drums & other percussion. Thank you to all the children & families who attended!
Y1 Abbey House Museum Trip
On Tuesday, Year 1 had a brilliant afternoon at the Abbey House Museum learning about 'toys through time'. We had a chance to look around the museum and dress up in Victorian clothing. WE LOVED IT!
St Joseph's Day
On Monday, we celebrated #StJosephsDay by going to Mass, learning about his life and creating some fantastic artwork about 'Families'. As a treat, we had choc ices or ice lollies! We are proud to be like St Joseph - loving, hardworking and accepting.
Good Shepherd Appeal Games Afternoon
Today was a fantastic success! Thank you to Year 5 for running the stalls, and everybody for making the event run smoothly. We were delighted to invite Mr Thompson, our parent governor, to join in the activities.
Stations of the Cross
The whole school are having a wonderful morning taking part in the Stations of the Cross activities to get us all thinking about the meaning of Easter.
Cross Country Competition
Well done to the Year 4 Orienteering team who finished 5th at the School Games Festival at Nunroyd Park today.
Y5 Trip to Leeds Art Gallery and LYMP Concert
Year 5 enjoyed a fantastic school trip today. First at @LeedsArtGallery then on to the @ArtFormsLeeds City of Leeds Youth Orchestra concert. What a cultural day. Over 850 pupils and teachers from across the city attended the City of Leeds Youth Music Prom this afternoon.
We are a MindMate Friendly School
We are pleased to announce that St Joseph's Otley is now a recognised MindMate Friendly School. Well done and thank you to all those involved in contributing to a vitally important aspect of school life for our pupils, staff and families.
World Book Day
Finally we get to enjoy World Book Day! After having lots of snow, we've had to rearrange @WorldBookDayUK and today we get to see all the fantastic costumes that the children have come up with!
Y4 Skipping Workshop
Year 4 have had a great morning taking part in a Skipping Festival! We have been doing some really challenging tricks and showing we are all great at skipping!
Y6 had a fantastic few days visiting Robinwood Activity Centre in Todmorden. Children have faced fears, laughed lots and worked amazingly as part of a team! Well done everyone.
Year 4 have had an action packed morning doing orienteering around the school grounds! A lot of fun was had and lots was learnt by all the children.
Playing in the Snow
Reception class had lots of fun playing out in the snow this morning!
Y6 Discovery Centre
Year 6 are enjoying their morning learning all about WW1 with a visit from Leeds Discovery Centre! They are using objects and evidence to learn about people's experiences during the war.
Year 3 Lent Assembly
Year 3 celebrated the beginning of Lent with our class assembly. We spoke about the idea of forgiveness and thought about the three things we should do in Lent; say sorry, give up something and give money to charity.
Year 5 Mass
This morning Year 5 took part in a class mass where they focused on the celebration of Reconciliation. Thank you to Fr Lawrie for leading the mass and to all the parents who came along to show their support.
Chinese New Year
Reception class have had lots of fun learning about Chinese New Year this week! We had a lovely parent come in and show us traditional dress and even brought in fortune cookies for us all! Thank you Mrs Choo!
Today we have enjoyed our CAFOD Faith Lunch! We have all had a simple lunch of a sandwich and a piece of fruit so that we can appreciate what we have compared to people less fortunate than ourselves.
Today was our first Toast Tuesday raising funds for The Good Shepherd Appeal - a huge thanks to our 2 parents & a handful of Year 5 children for creating a fantastic Toast Making/Delivery Team! We made over a whopping 300 slices of toast!
We were welcomed back after half term with an assembly led by the Carnival Committee! They told us how the children can apply to be Carnival Queen or Consort, Deputy Queen or Attendants for this years Carnival! Lets get applying!

Space Week - Thursday
A huge thanks to Mr & Mrs Pratt for delivering an exciting assembly about the science behind our Rocket Launch today. As we pump air through the water the pressure inside the bottle builds up until the force of the air pushing on the water is enough to launch! The whole school have had a very exciting morning testing out the rockets we made in class yesterday to see who's flew the highest!

Each class is thoroughly enjoyed a telescope experience brought to us by one of our lovely parents, Mr Wright!

Polestar Planetarium is in the building! Children are loving the 360° immersive multi-media theatre experience. As we journey through space, we will explore areas such as the solar system, the constellations & life on the space station
Space Week - Monday
Space Week is here & everyone looks 'out of this world'!! We look forward to some fantastic activities this week including a visit from Polestar Planetarium, rocket launching, biscuit decorating and our huge Universe Quiz!
Year 6 are thoroughly enjoying their Bikeability seesions with @cycleleeds We believe it is so important to learn about road safety and about bicycle care.

Year 5 Handball Tournament
On Thursday, Year 5 took part in a handball competition at Prince Henry's Grammar school. We competed against two other local schools. The event was organised and run by the sixth form sports coaches and followed on from the lessons last half term by Mrs Fenton Green from PHGS.
We really enjoyed the competition and played lots of different games. Some of us found the games were highly competitive, others thought they were less so and just enjoyed playing against other children.
Happy New year to everyone and we hope 2018 will be prosperous for all.
The children (and staff) have come back refreshed after the holidays and ready to tackle the challenges the year may hold. It has been wonderful to share the stories, family times and news from Christmas. Positive behaviour and good manners have shone through in the first two days and bode well for the future. Well done and keep it up!

Singing for Otley Action for Old People
This week Year 5 and Year 6 visited Otley Action for Old People during their annual Christmas Dinner. We enjoyed singing carols and talking with the guests. It was Len's 91st birthday and we all sang Happy Birthday to him. What a special event!
Singing in the Parish
Today, pupils and staff attended the annual Christmas parish dinner. Parishioners loved listening to the children singing a selection of Christmas carols. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon for everybody!
We all had a really enjoyable evening at the school Christmas Disco! The evening was full of dancing, games and laughter. Thank you to all the parents who came along to help for the evening.
Otley Christmas Tree Festival
Thank you to Otley Christmas Tree Festival for another wonderful year. All our classes really enjoyed looking at the decorated trees and singing our Christmas Carols. This fabulous event raises money for important charities in Otley and the surrounding areas.
Christmas Dinner Day
A huge thank you to Mrs Brylov and the catering team for producing a very tasty Christmas Dinner. We were joined by Father Lawrie and some of the other priests, who stayed for dinner following Reconciliation earlier in the morning. We loved wearing our Christmas jumpers and hats, and having a sing song to all our favourite Christmas hits.
LADA Presents Sleeping Beauty
Thank you to @LADAProductions for a fantastic 'Sleeping Beauty' pantomime this morning. We all thoroughly enjoyed joining in!
Thank you to everybody who attended Otley Victorian Fayre this weekend. Everybody commented how beautiful the singing sounded and what a wonderful effort people made with their costumes.
Christmas Craft Day
On Friday, the whole school took part in a Christmas Craft Day. We spent the day making festive decorations and Christmas cards. We had a lot of fun and it definitely got us in the Christmas Spirit!
This week is national Anti-Bullying Week. During Friday's assembly, Year 3 discussed strategies to deal with bullying and explained how we should celebrate our differences. We created a jigsaw to show how we are all individual but fit together as a school community.
Renewing the School Mission Statement
The representatives of the school council and the Mini Vinnie team working hard with Mrs Pennington, a member of the Academy Council to renew our school mission statement. We were joined by a number of parents and a parish representative to help us generate our ideas and put them together to form a new snappy mission statement for the school.
