Welcome to Reception's Class Page 2019–20

Welcome to Reception’s Class Page.  Here you will find lots of news about the exciting things we have been learning. You will also find resources to help support your child at home.

Week 1

What a fabulous first week our reception children have had at St Joseph's!  We couldn't be more proud of  them and how they have come into school in such a grown up manner, ready to learn. We have had a lovely week getting to know each other and making new friends. The children have also enjoyed getting to explore our lovely big classroom and outside area. This week we have practised writing our names and made 'All about me' flowers for our display. We have also started to share our 'All about me' booklets to find out more about each other.  We have played lots of circle time games and sang songs.

The children really enjoyed their first visit from our music teacher, Mrs Shakespear. They learnt the song about the five cheeky monkeys swinging in the tree. Ask your child to sing it to you! They also enjoyed exploring the musical instruments and the different sounds they make.

Week 2

Reception class have had another fabulous week in school. We have been reading "Harry and the Dinosaurs start school" as a class and then have been practising writing our name. Please keep practising this at home.

In Maths this week, we have continued our learning about numbers and counting. Try going on a number hunt to see how many different places you can find numbers around your home

We have also been painting self-portraits this week. First we had a good look at ourselves in mirrors before choosing the paint and having a go. Please feel free to come and have a look at these on the far wall in Reception classroom.

We had a very exciting Friday afternoon when Reception met their buddies for the first time. Year 6 came down to Reception and we showed them around our classroom and had a play together.

All the children continue to settle in really well. Joseph H said his favourite thing about Reception is "Playing on the computers as I like the phonics games", while Anthony said, "I like playing outside with all the toys."
